DescriptionStudents are involved with the process of creating a major Arts production for the school, (eg: the School Musical) including script reading and development, staging and direction decisions, planning and rehearsing, designing and manufacturing props and sets, costuming, hair and makeup and performing. They complete assignments relating to the school production based on their chosen field of interest; drama, dance, music, or theatre/stagecraft, and can be involved in the production either as a part of the back stage crew or as an on stage performer.

School-based
Practical Inquiry - 40%
The practical part of the course consists of 3 parts:
     Audition and written reflection or oral presentation on crew roles and written reflection
     Peer teaching task and written reflection
     Participation in rehearsals and performance week
Students keep a folio of all ideas, plans, research and draft assessment pieces as well as regular journal entries that demonstrate their own ideas opinions and development in relation to their learning throughout their participation in all aspects of the stage production rehearsals and performances.
They use their folio of evidence in a filmed ‘Round Table Discussion’ with their teacher and peers focusing on their learning and development in the Stage Production course.


Connections - 30%
Students work collaboratively in small groups to plan and create props or sets for the musical or design tickets, programs or posters for the production (or any other negotiated area related to the production.) A written report with self and peer assessment is part of this assessment task.

External
Personal Endeavour - 30%

Information on the External Assessment
Students individually select an area of the School Musical program that is of interest to them. They explore and analyse relevant information, concepts, ideas and/or skills, and communicate their ideas and opinions about them.
Student select one capability and explore the link between the capability and the area of interest they have chosen.
They can present their Personal Endeavour in two parts:
• An inquiry, that is either research and /or practical based and has an outcome or conclusion (recommended 75% of total evidence)
An explanation of the connections between the area of interest and the capability selected (recommended 25% of total evidence (2000 words maximum for entire project)

Each project is assessed individually, and is marked, by an external assessor appointed by the SACE Board.

Additional Information
Special Requirement: Students need to attend after school lessons, holiday workshops/rehearsals and full cast rehearsals and performances.
