The practical components of the course allow students to demonstrate their skills in research, knowledge acquisition and practical application and reflection. Students can focus on either of the following options:
Onstage role: audition, rehearsals and performances
Off stage role: organisation and manipulation of sets and props during rehearsals and performances.
Students keep a folio of all ideas, plans, research and draft assessment pieces as well as regular journal entries that demonstrate their own ideas opinions and development in relation to their learning throughout and their participation in all aspects of the stage production rehearsals and performances.
They then use this folio of evidence in a filmed ‘Round Table Discussion’ with their teacher and peers focusing on their learning and development in the Stage Production course.

o Connections 40%
Students work collaboratively in small groups to plan and create props or sets for the musical or design tickets, programs or posters for the production (or any other negotiated area related to the production.) A written report with self and peer assessment is part of this assessment task.

o Personal Venture 20%
Students individually select an area of the School Musical program that is of interest to them. They will explore and analyse relevant information, concepts, ideas and/or skills, and communicate their ideas and opinions about them.
Student select one capability and explore the link between the capability and the area of interest they have chosen.
They can present their Personal Endeavour in two parts:
