Description
Introduction to Construction – Construction Focus allows students to explore a range of trade-based occupations. Throughout the semester, students will work both individually and in groups to explore the following;
• Work Health and Safety requirements specific to a chosen trade or task
• Industry immersion, through visiting and interviewing individuals already working in the construction industry
• Practical assessments can include an introduction to:
- Timber framing
- Plaster board fixing and flushing
- Bricklaying
- Plumbing
- Engineering
Topics
Students explore a range of construction industries to comment, discuss, analyse and present their findings, Students will also need to design and produce a practical project negotiated with their teacher.
Assessment
Assessment is school based and externally moderated. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
Skills and Applications Tasks - 20%
• Issues and Material Investigation - 30%
• Major Project and Design Folio - 50%
