| Description | In Tourism, students develop an understanding of the nature of tourists, the tourism industry and the economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts of tourism activity. They also develop an understanding of tourism from the perspectives of host, tourism operator, and traveller. The importance of sustainable management of tourism is central to this subject. |

| Assessment | The following assessment types enable students to demonstrate their learning in Stage 1 Tourism:
Assessment Type 1: Case Study
Students undertake an in-depth study into a particular location, event, or tourism
activity.
Assessment Type 2: Sources Analysis
Students analyse sources of information about tourism, answered in short-answer form.
Assessment Type 3: Practical Activity
Students develop and demonstrate practical tourism skills, using primary sources they have collected themselves through observation and recording.
Assessment Type 4: Investigation
In negotiation with the teacher, students will identify a tourism trend or issue to investigate. Students then identify, interpret and analyse data and present findings.
For a 10-credit subject, students provide evidence of their learning through four or five assessments, with at least one assessment from each assessment type.
