DescriptionStudents are involved in the process of understanding and creating Urban/ community Art for the school and local community. They complete assignments relating to the analysis of public artworks, explore urban art as a merchandising tool for community events and work both individually and in small groups to create art works for the school and other community groups and agencies.

School-based
Exploration - 40% (Two Tasks)
The practical part of the course consists of 2 parts:
• The implications of illegal urban art
• The use of urban art in merchandising
• Creating community artworks

Students create a folio of all ideas, designs, plans, research, materials/mediums testing, self-reflections and teacher/peer feedback, as well as regular journal entries that demonstrate their own ideas opinions and development in relation to their learning throughout their participation in all aspects of assessment tasks.
They use their folio of evidence in a filmed ‘Round Table Discussion’ with their teacher and peers focusing on their learning and development throughout the course.

Connections - 40% (Two Tasks)
Students work collaboratively in small groups to plan and create artworks for a specific school or community event/group. Tasks will include negotiating with community groups, pricing, budgeting establishing and planning the artwork. Receiving feedback from others and undertaking self-assessment is integral to the process. Students consider their Personal and Social capability and consider how they have developed and applied this capability.
A written procedural report with annotate photos as evidence as well as self and peer assessment is part of this assessment task.

Personal Venture - 20% (One Task)
Students undertake this task individually.
Students individually select an area of the Urban Art program that is of interest to them. They will explore and analyse relevant information, concepts, ideas and/or skills, and communicate their ideas and opinions about them.
Students select one capability and explore the link between the capability and the area of interest they have chosen.
They present their Personal Endeavour in two parts:
• An inquiry, that is either inquiry/practical based and has on outcome or conclusion (recommended ¾ of total evidence)
An explanation of the connections between the area of interest and the capability selected (recommended ¼ of total evidence
Each project is assessed individually, and is marked, by an external assessor appointed by the SACE Board.
