DescriptionThis course allows students to explore the natural world via camps and excursions and examine the impact we as humans have on these natural environments.

AssessmentType 1: About Natural Environments (20%)
Task 1: Coastal Ecology Environmental Study – A comparison of management strategies and environmental outcomes (Indigenous perspective) (20%)

Type 2: Experiences in Natural Environments (50%)
Task 3: Tale of two journeys – story of personal development. (25%)
Task 4: The final journey – personal reflection and evaluation of course learning ‘to journeys end’. (25%)

Type 3: Connections With Natural Environments (30%)
Task 5: Connections with natural environments – Investigate and/or explore a personal connection with natural areas focusing in environmental or human considerations. (30%)


Tasks have individual word/time limits based on weighting.

Additional InformationThis course incurs a Compulsory Fee of $200, this fee covers all excursions and camps for the duration of the semester. Students who do not commit to this payment will be unable to enrol in this subject. This fee does not cover the food or clothing required for the camp.

Students wishing to select this subject must have achieved an A or B grade in Outdoor Education A and must be enrolled in Outdoor Education B.

Students must attend 9 days in the field over the duration of the course as outlined by the SACE board. The course will include: three 3-Day/2-Night camps which will include bush walking and surfing with no amenities provided on the Bushwalking trips (no toilet/shower/running water) as this is an assessable component of the course. Students should only choose this subject if they are willing to be active participants in all practical sessions.
