Description | Students investigate the purpose, design concepts, processes and production techniques of existing photographs and create their own ideas for an identified need. They explore different photography techniques and develop strong foundation skills in taking well composed and correctly exposed photographs.
Students design and create photographs that meet a design brief and develop the knowledge and skills associated with using different processes and photographic techniques. They combine their designing and creating skills with knowledge and understanding of materials, information and equipment to take high-quality photos for intended purposes. They analyse the impact of photography on individuals and society and develop insights into the uses of technology in future contexts.

Topics | Students explore a range of photography styles including black and white, landscape, portrait, studio and product photography. They explore examples of these styles and develop skills in composition, lighting and process. |
Assessment | Assessment is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types: Specialised Skills Tasks: Demonstration of the use of aperture (depth of field) and shutter speed (movement) to achieve a desired effect.
Design Development: Investigation and planning to produce an Instagram portfolio, including research into social impact and ethical issues related to photo manipulation.
Solution Realisation: Production of photographs for your Instagram photographic account.

Additional Information | Additional cost for photographic paper and other consumables, up to $20. Students can use their own camera but this is not essential. External hard drive (500 GB or bigger) storage device is recommended for backing up of student work. |
