SACE Stage | SACE Stage 1 |
SACE Credits | 10 credits |
Subject Length | 1 semester |
Description | The three bands of science (inquiry skills, science as a human endeavour, and science understanding) are integrated throughout student learning in this subject.
The study of Physics is constructed around using qualitative and quantitative models, laws, and theories to better understand matter, forces, energy, and the interaction among them. Physics seeks to explain natural phenomena, from the subatomic world to the macrocosm, and to make predictions about them. The models, laws, and theories in physics are based on evidence obtained from observations, measurements, and active experimentation over thousands of years.
In Physics students integrate and apply a range of understanding, inquiry, and scientific thinking skills that encourage and inspire them to contribute their own solutions to current and future problems and challenges. |
Topics | Students study topics relating to: • Waves • Electric Circuits • Nuclear Models
A minimum of 8-10 hours of class time will involve practical activities.
|
Assessment | Assessment is school based. Students demonstrate their learning through two assessment types: • Skills and Applications Tasks (two tests - 50%) • Investigations Folio (50%) The Folio includes one practical investigation and one investigation with a focus on science as a human endeavour (SHE task).
These are assessed against SACE performance standards: Investigation, Analysis and Evaluation (IAE) and, Knowledge and Application (KA).
