DescriptionThis subject provides students with opportunities to work productively as a member of a team, group, or ensemble to design, plan, practise, rehearse, make, create, perform, and/or present their creative arts product(s) in relation to the creative and technical aspects of running the school radio station and PA system for various school and community events.

Students have opportunities to identify and reflect on their personal creative arts ideas, opinions, and skills relevant to the program focus.

AssessmentAssessment Type 1: 50%
Product: Live or Podcast broadcast
Students produce a live or pre recorded radio show of 30 minutes. They will develop a playlist, back announce and develop an overall theme around their radio show. This may be around particular youth issues, music styles trends or other negotiated topics. Students present their work as a broadcast to other students in a lunchtime performance or at other suitable school events. A post evaluation of their broadcast is expected

Support Materials: Technical background
• Students learn the technical aspects of radio broadcast. They learn to identify various components used in radio broadcast, how they work as well as how to look after such equipment. Students learn to use CDJs and mixers as well as reverse turntables and mixers. They also learn how to create a podcast on computer. Furthermore, students explore broadcast to a FM band and technical considerations when doing so.

Skills Assessment:
1. Students undertake WHS training at an appropriate level to ensure safe operating procedures.
2. This is to be advised once students have discussed their areas of interest and can be designed to suit their desires.
Investigation:
Students visit professional radio stations to observe the key functions and responsibilities in radio broadcast. This will be conducted off site. Furthermore, guest presenters act in a mentorship capacity in the development of student broadcasts. In addition, students explore APRA consideration, how the industry works as well as employment opportunities in this industry with an eye to future technologies and trends.
