DescriptionThe capabilities for communication and personal development are central to the learning requirements, content, and assessment requirements of Visual Arts.

Students develop artistic communication through written, visual and oral forms. They express knowledge, feelings, and ideas and develop a concept using a variety of media. This may include painting, drawing, design, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, glasswork and installation.

Students understand and use visual arts language to analyse, interpret and respond to art across cultural and historical contexts.

     Practical Application
     Knowledge and Understanding
     Analysis and Response

AssessmentAssessment is school based against SACE performance standards. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

o Folio 30%
Folio of annotated visual research leading to and supporting their resolved artwork. This is an opportunity for a reflective and thorough documentation of research and visual thinking, processes and exploration.
Students research and analyse selected works that appeal to them or are in the same style, media, subject matter that they have been working in. In this task students use appropriate terminologies and language to respond to these artists and art works.

o Practical 30%
Resolved artwork: 2 to 3 pieces of related artwork in style, media or technique.
Students present a reflection on their influences, techniques, and visual thinking whilst evaluating their own work.

o Visual Study 40% (Drawing Focus)
Students complete an art analysis related to a visit to 3 exhibitions and then compare their development, understanding and use of arts terminology.
Introduction to various drawing techniques and experimentation. Students will produce a series of drawings using a variety of media.
Students research and analyse artworks of selected artists, responding to the relationship between style/media/technique. They use appropriate terminologies and language to respond to these artists and art works.
