DescriptionCombined with Essential Mathematics 1, this subject prepares students for Stage 2 Essential Mathematics.

Students discuss and share ideas as they explore, select, and apply a range of mathematical concepts, processes, and strategies in everyday problems and situations. Students develop critical thinking skills by making choices to solve problems, and communicating mathematical processes and results with clarity and understating.

Essential Mathematics is designed for a range of students, including those who are seeking to meet the SACE numeracy requirement, and students who are planning to pursue a career in a range of trades or vocational pathways.

There is an emphasis on extending computational skills and applying mathematical skills in flexible and resourceful ways.

AssessmentAssessment is school based but subject to final moderation. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through two assessment types: Skills and Applications Tasks (2 test and an exam – 50%) and a Folio (2 investigations – 50%), four assessment tasks in total.
